Looking for a small framed ladies bike

First time rider looking for a road or hybrid bike to train with and ride with. Will buy straight out (used - for a reasonable price) or can "rent" until just after the race. Bike must fit someone 5'1".

What's your budget? A "reasonable price" is relative to the product...

Right. Don't want anything too fancy. I'd be willing to go to about $300.

I have a Gary Fisher Capitola that your welcome to borrow.  I'm 5 ft 2 in and used it for the first 2 years I rode - this is my 4th year.   You can can contact me most evenings at 905-470-1751 (Hm) or leave a message & I'll call you back. I'm not ready to sell it but your certainly welcome to borrow it.  I think it's a 2005 model but I have kept it well maintained.  Not sure where your located but I'm in Markham.
