I'm going to look at (what I have been told) is a gently used 2009 Specalized Dolce Sport Triple bike. I currently own a Gary Fisher Capitola so this will be a whole new ride. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should be looking at/for? I know fit is very important; other than that, I sort of lost when it comes to road bikes.
Is it this one: http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/bik/2810377075.html
Fit is top priority. Ride it around the block a few times and try to get a feel for it. If it's the wrong size, it's the wrong size.
Lift the bike up and give each wheel a spin. Watch the space between the brake pad and the wheel to see if the wheels are true.
Check the wear on the bar tape, saddle and tires. If it truly is lightly used these will appear like new. Grippy/spongy bar tape, no wear on saddle, and no cuts, chips, etc on the tires.
When riding check that all the gears change smoothly in both directions, and that the brakes work.
Lastly check the frame for any signs of wear or impact. It's aluminum so any issues should be visible unlike a carbon frame that could have internal issues.
The price is OK but you might be able to get a similar bike new for that amount. Bike retailers between now and the start if the season want to clear out their 2011 inventory with great deals. Buying new gets you a warranty and a proper fit.
