I agree that this year's design is not as interesting as the past 2 years. The cut of my XL is very close that of the 2010. If anything the 2011 is slightly larger, but the difference is minor. Bike jersey's are usually short in front to account for the leaning forward position on most road bikes.
I am very glad they stuck with Sugoi and didn't return to the 2009 jersey maker. I had to use lip balm to reduce the chafing on my nipples!
the 2011 is my favorite jersey so far. Just personal taste, but I wasn't terribly fond of the landscape on the 2010 jersey.
TBA, cycling jerseys are gender specific and sugoi does have a full range of woman's jerseys that are more form fitting around the waist and under the arms, but offer a bit more fabric up top so the jersey doesn't ride up your belly. If it's anything like the previous years they send out only mens jerseys in S thru XXL.
If it's a matter of being self conscious you can go with bib shorts which have suspenders and the lycra goes all the way up to the bottom of your rib cage. IMHO bibs are also superior in every way to normal cycling shorts.
at first i thought it was pretty plain but then I liked the simplicity of it, and wow, last year i order a M get a L, this year order a M get a M, and it fits the same.
What is up with backpack sorta bag ish thing we got
SilverFox - use BodyGlide for chafing - I used it when I first started running, and I haven't used anything else since!
RSinfield - I have a long torso, and even though I've lost 54 lbs since last year, my belly still hangs out, and I just didn't want the jersey riding up. I tried it out on the fan trainer last night, and I now don't think that it'll be a problem. I guess I'm not used to things being more form fitting. I'll have to try the bib shorts.
yeah I didnt really get the idea behind the back pack thing. Doesn't look to comfortable to ride with. Especially if there was any weight in it, those draw string straps would dig into your shoulders. Gave mine to the kids to play with. Might be good for taking stuff to the park. I appreciate the idea of giving us something but would have prefered them just save the money and use it towards something else. I also got the wrong bike plate and wrist band. Gave me the 200k instead of 200m. Called and lady said it didnt matter what it said, but it kinda mattered to me. Oh well!
Last year at both sign in and at camp they had blank name plates so you could switch form k to m or vice versa but the name was writen in with a sharpie not printed.
TwoBrokenArms, thanks for the BodyGlide recommendation. The use of lip balm was an emergency action. It was on the second day that the chafing started, and I believe it was due to the looser fitting jersey and its material that caused the discomfort. As a guy, my nipples don't factor into most things I do. This was a surprise. I haven't had an issue since but I'll probably dip into my wife's supply of Udder Cream that she picked up at the Run for the Cure.
As for the bags - what a waste. Not practical for use on a long ride, or as an overnight bag. I suppose it could be used for the trip to the shower and as a laundry bag afterwards. Mine will likely be used as a pool bag for the rest of the summer.
So that's what it's for! I don't carry a purse during the summer, but need somewhere to put wallet and such for when I go and do errands. That's what I'll use it for, as I don't have cycling shoes (too afraid of clips and such), and I can carry my helmet.
Here's the jersey. I kind of like the simple design. I find the fit to be a bit big though. I'm usually a Large but I might try to swap this one for a Medium.
That's not bad. It looks more like a classic cycling jersey than its predecessors did. Personally, I found last year's jersey to be a little "busy", but maybe that's just me.
Regardless of the intended use of the bag still seems like a waste. Even if they only cost a few dollars to purchase (x 4000 riders) would have rather seen that money go to the hospital. I've never needed a bag for my shoes and helmet but if I ever do I know what to use now.
i was stoked getting the envelopebag in the mail box yesterday, and then instantly disappointed once i saw the jersey. I understand that they have to use the corporate colours (yellow and black), but come on!?! , they had an entire year to design something, and they could have been a bit more creative with the use of space at least on the back. A suggestion to the organizers, for 2012 can there be some healthy competition to submit designs and/or ideas?
(and the sizing, wow! this years XL size mens is WAY looser than last years, i'm definitely showing up early to trade for a L)
and agree about the shower/helmet/shoe bag (whatever you want to use it for), what a waste of money. Even if Sugoi donated them, take that money and donate it to the overall ride. Like others, i'm sure the last thing you need is another event bag.
oh well,.... just some constructive criticism, and it beats receiving nothing at all
i'm thinking it was a bad bag design and they had 5000 laying around, so hey why not give to the riders... woohoo... i'm strapping it to me on the ride. lol... KIDDING
is this the only jersey available this year? i can't seem to find the one pictured above on the website. or do you receive the other jersey in the mail with your check-in package?

aniakarina - the photo you posted is the training jersey. The ride jersey is sent to you once you have reached the fundraising minimum. See above in thread.
This years jersey is awesome! Last years jersey had way to much gray. Kind of reminded me of an overcast day in Toronto. The lines and colours of this years jersey are right on the money, still wish there was no gray. Oh well. Good luck riders! See you in a week and a half.
