Fundraising Ideas

Anyone have any ideas as to fundraise for the 2011 ride?  I broke both my arms in the 25km training ride on Oct 3 and am very behind on fundraising.  Any help would be appreciated!

If you work for a big company, you can try doing a pancake breakfast and charging $10/person - making it clear that all the money is going to support your ride. Ask others to help with preparation. Shrove Tuesday (or Pancake Tuesday) is March 8th this year.

My mom works for a big company and they do barbecues when the weather gets nice. They charge $3/burger and donate all the proceeds to my ride. It's been a big help for me.

Good-luck! I hope your arms have healed. That must have been a bad spill! :s

I just had my first at-work fundraiser and it raised 100 dollars very easily! We had a soup lunch (two of us are doing the Ride) and had Soup to Conquer Cancer. My office mates were very supportive and I'm sure yours will be too!

I would, except when I broke both my arms in October, I was supposed to work a contract job, then lost the contract when I couldn't do anything.  My husband has tried at his work, but no one seems interested (it's only an office of less than 60 people).  When I get a job, I'll certainly try that.  If you have any other ideas, I'm open to them, though.

I was talking to someone today who did a street sale last year as a fundraiser and raised the $2500 in one day. He lives in a tight-knit community and asked some of his neighbours to help out. They made flyers and went door to door around the neighbourhood with them asking people to put out anything that they would be willing to donate for a huge street sale to benefit his cause. He said lots of people donated their "junk" and his neighbours helped to set up their front lawns/driveways with everything. Might be worth a shot.

If you have a local Walmart, contact them about having a Tag Day.  Walmart will match what you raise.  A friend had one recently & they raised over $700; Walmart matched that.

Check out www.thinkreycle.com.  Think Recycle will pay you to collect used ink & laser cartridges, cell phones, blackberries and digital cameras. They pay funds for each qualifying electronic item collected.    It's a little slower fundraiser - you don't make the funds as quickly as you would at a Tag Day - but it clears the environment and landfills of needless waste.

If you decide to sign up with Think Recycle, please mention that you were referred by  1SRCCM  (my account number).  For referring a new member, I receive a $15 gift card.  And, just so you know, there is no cost to you for signing.  They even pay all shipping charges and if you use your own boxes - I get mine at the grocery store -they credit you account with $3.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck with your fundraising.

Susan

We just had a Team member go to Walmart to see if we could have a Tag Day.  They were not willing to help us out at all.  Did not get a Great response.  Were told we are raising as individuals so they would not help us out.  Mentioned it was all for the Ride To Conquer Cancer and they still said no not at all.

If you have any more information could you pass that along and maybe we can try another Walmart.

Thanks

Good morning.  Sorry, I don't have any more info.  I know for a fact that Walmart does support this initiative.  Perhaps it's up to the individual store.  And yes, I think approaching another store is a great idea.  Good luck.

You could try home parties! Most of the companies would give you a cut rather than product if it's for fund raising. Purses seem to be the rage lately. A company called Miche Bag seems to be the big winner. It's not very well known yet, so you could beat all your friends before they have parties. It's worth a try. I'm actually thinking about having one myself! Good Luck! Short to hear about your mishap!

Our team is running a silent auction and raffle with donated products and services from businesses. We've had a pretty good response and have some decent prizes to offer. We're targetting to raise between $3000 and $4000 for the team in one night.
