My name is Aly & I'm a nationally ranked swimmer-have been for a while. I have heard from 406 American Universities and I was hoping to give them some diversity in my application. Therefore, I registered for the K200! I've helped fund raise before, although I've never biked my self (except for going down a street or two to visit a friend). I just realized that I have NO CLUE what I've gotten my self into.. but none-the-less I am really excited about it.
I'm from Pickering & I was wondering if any of you guys had any idea of where good biking routes are as well as extra training tips. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Oh! and I actually really do not want to ride on my own-any open spots on a team?
I'm a team captain and I've got a team of seven riders (myself included) mostly based in east side of Toronto. I'd be interested in taking on another team member if you're still looking.
As for outdoor training rides, the area east of 404 / north of major mac is teeming with riders on the weekends in the spring / summer. For the past two years in the Ride, I've been parking my car at Elgin Mills / 404 and riding up Warden. Every time I go I see dozens of riders, and occassionally one of the organized training Ride events.
Incidentally, if you've got good cardio / core conditioning then the best thing you can do for yourself is get time in the saddle. Indoor rollers are cheap and help with balance on the bike. I've heard spin classes are great as well, but personally I can't stand them.
Hey guys I live in the McCowan Major Mac area and looking for riders to train with for the R2CC 2011 event. If you are looking for anymore riders I'd be happy to join you. I use to ride long rides but two years ago I was hit and almost kill by a car while riding. After 2 yrs of rehab and getting back on my bikes I am ready to get involved in longer rides. Last year the longest was 80km but my speed and endurance is coming back. I ride a Cervelo S2 and Cannondale CAAD9 all with dura ace.
Practise on a colleague or friend. Think about who your audience is and what you want them to get out of an effective presentation. Think about content and style. If you video yourself get someone else to evaluate your performance and highlight your best skills; you will find it very difficult to be objective about those skills yourself. Prepare, prepare, prepare.
Hi I have a team of Riders who mostly all work for the Ontario Government, we are a casual team have been fundraising individually but as the even gets near as captain I hope to be able to help out my team with some pledges (re-direct from myself to them!)
Two years in rehab, amazing you are doing this. The ride marks the 2nd anniversary of my stem cell transplant, so 2 is number with meaning for me
We are spread out, mostly work downtown. I have been training at the gym, but plan on getting outside for rides next week. I ride the trails mostly lakeshore, don valley, humber. Let me know if you want to make some rides downtown. Our team is called OPS riders....
