Looking to get some info from others who are on this diet, I have been trying to think on how to prepare for this two day event with out getting sick. anyone have any advice?
I really can not tell you what to eat for GF etc but what I can say is to bring your own food. Food for these events is prepared in mass and cross contamination is huge - I have seen the same cutting board used for fruit as for bagels, etc. Remember these are volunteers who are prepping a lot of the food, especially at pit stops, not chefs.
I have food restrictions and I always make sure to carry a few things that I know that I can eat - that way I am never without. I have also been lucky enough to have family meet me on the route with snacks etc. I also make sure to take an extra apple etc with me - fruit is not always available at lunch and it is a great easy on bike thing to eat.
From the past couple of years, from what I remember, lunches are pretty much sandwiches or wraps, with a cookie type treat and a drink - perhaps a potato salad as well. Dinner is usually roasted chicken, salad, pasta, veggies and baked treats. Breakfast has been a egg sandwich type thing and then eggs/bacon/pancakes the next day.
Hi Yvonne - I'm GF as well and it's a great idea to bring some GF bars (Costco has some). All of the pit stops have plenty of fruit, drinks etc. And the dinner on Saturday often has chicken, salad, rice, etc. You can ask a server on site to confirm what is GF and what isn't.
Here is another post that might help related to the same issue: http://theontarioridetoconquercancer.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=125686&p=3&topicID=33288567
Thank you so much for this info, I was starting to get worried as to what there was to eat that is safe..as you know what it is like when we just get a touch of gluten..I will make sure that I pack enough bars ect.... Thanks again.
Corbeil, wow, yes there is a group from North Bay called the Drafters or Drifters, it's a large team. How is training going? was just out riding the route from Centennial to Corbeil, Callander, and Astroville area biking yesterday, heading up to Lee's road, four mile lake road to Redbridge store and then back to North Bay to enjoy the rest of this beautiful day, if you are interested we could meet before the big event. Is this your first time doing the ride for cancer?
yes, first time doing this event. I commute to work from my place, out to derland road, callander, then the bike path. I have did that Lees Rd/Tower/4mile lake route 3 times. 2 of my friends are doing the NB tri, so i ride with them sometimes. when I feel full of energy. The week before the ride I am in lancaster PA doing some biking, will be a good tune up. ( I enjoy riding, but am not a speedy person by any stretch). Riding for my brother, father and many others. But my brother is my inspiration. and it would be great to meet for a ride. I am in windsor until Tuesday(visiting my first grandchild, a lovely little boy, Cole Murray, not even 2 weeks old!!!
