Or, be part of a team? I won't have my bike paid for until the very end of March, then it's buying a helmet, yada yada. I did ride from April to late September, when the bike was stolen, last year, and I've been hiking all over God's creation since, so I'm not horrifically out of shape. when I do ride, i have to take breaks for pain meds and to stretch out my back. I'm doing the M200, as promised to my brother who died the following day, and I can go it alone, no problem, but if there are any others out there who aren't out to break land speed records, I'll be on a mountain bike and just chugging along, it would be nice to not ride alone, but with kind people. I'm a two time cancer survivor, 46, almost 47 when the ride occurs, and I can't bike ride until I buy the bike, helmet, gloves, and warm gear. April for most of it. So that's about 9 weeks before the ride.
Cheers, Chase

I'm going all out on the first day since it's just through suburbs. I'm aiming to finish the first day in 5.5 hours or less. The second day will be at a more leisurely pace.

Taylor, I mean during training. I'm going to ride my ass off Day One and hope to do the second 100 in 8 hours, 5 if there's a God. Once I get the bike paid off, I'm getting the shoes and clipless pedals. Anything to ease the work and especially on a mountain bike. I think the owner of the place will see me right.
At any rate, training rides I eventually catch up, but the first two weeks I'll be in hell. I should improve and be kicking butt by May. I'd just like to train off the trail now and then, though i suppose after the trail, gravel, incline, the pavement will feel great.
By the way, there's a wee coffee shop next to the Hamilton Sheraton and the girl there is fascinated that I'm doing this, asked for letters and stuff. I hand them to her with 5 of the 10 cards someone printed for me (I'll do more in March) and she thanks me and then shocked me. "So, I'll print out a bunch of copies of this for you then?" "Yes please. I'll keep an eye out for you, i'm four blocks away anyway. thanks." Sometimes, help comes from unexpected places.

How slow is slow? I don't want to crawl. 100 miles a day is going to necessitate clocking some time in.
Thinking of my brother, I kind of want to just stick a sign on the bike that says "My brother's Keeper" or something like that. Dunno. I just want the bike already. I keep looking at pictures online like it's my girlfriend.

I wouldn't mind trying that trail in the Spring. It sounds like fun.
I'll have the bike at the end of March. Give me two weeks to get into it, and we can ride to Brantford and back, meet at the trail head on Ewen Road off Main West. I figure two weeks to get my lungs back and if you don't mind a stop at the centre, 5.5 km in, for twenty for me to catch breathe and stretch, another at 12-ish, 18, and possibly 22.3, though we can skip 12 if need be, I'll be happy for the company.
I wish I had the bike NOW, but it's just 5 weeks more...just five weeks...i'm pacing, frustrated the thing was stolen in the first place, but it's not that far off.

Nice. An online friend who does Cycle Oregon, lives in Portugal, has a Trek Madone...She loves it. The frame cracked the day before the Oregon ride? Trek Fed-Ex'd the next frame up to her, free. She was thrilled.
Here's a shot of her bike during a rest in last September's 6 day ride"
She said it was like 5 or 6K then the next year the same thing was 8 1/2 k, USDollars. Blew her mind.

I have a team that I formed this year and I only have myself and one other friend that is in it so far. Since the ride is full, I have to recruit within the registered riders. My team name is Livestrong so if you would like check it out on the site, go ahead. We could meet up sometime and go for a ride sometime. I ride a '07 Trek Madone 5.5
Let me know what you think.
Chio!

I ride a Cannondale F5 Mountain bike. I imagine I'll go fast enough, but I won't be zipping on this thing. I had to start a team, even if it's just me this year. It's a for-my-brother thing. I'll form it earlier next year. Like when I register at this year's ride for next year.
