Hi Chris;

1) Use a really big bag - a hockey bag works well, if you have one. That's what I used last year, and I saw many others doing the same.

2) I can't remember if it was 7:30 or 8:00, but there were several hundred riders queued up and ready to go as soon as they let us out of camp on Sunday morning. Yes, the 2nd day is much flatter than the first. 3) The showers are in big trucks. There are separate ones for men and women. Inside each truck is 5 or 6 shower stalls. Each stall has a curtain for privacy at the entrance, and walls between each stall. Each stall has a small area for changing (with hooks for towel, etc.) and then a shower stall with another curtain. I was quite amazed at how good they were.

J pretty much broke it down for you,
I also used an older duffle / hockey bag. lined with garbage bags as it was laid out behind the truck that our tent line had, and it had T stormed while laying there. the Tents , etc all easy to find, signage is amazing. Your tent and row were on your arm band , which match the truck # also. Think it was open , no mass start or talk at 7:30 Sunday, just ride off .
I had a small shower kit, but did arrive around 12 30 Sat. and noticed later that the ride did put out male/female shower kits in bags later on. Showers are in 53 foot transport truck (s), designed for this and not just thrown together, hot water was fine, very private. . If you plan on any massage etc, shorten lunch (which is hard to do , as it was great) and get there early as they fill fast. Medical tent had 50 feet of table offering tons of pain killers and creams. One thing, I am an early riser, thank God as the out door toilets are numerous, BUT lines were couple dozen people long at each of them by 6ish Sunday, the same goes for food line then. They also set up store as from this site at start (Fri) , Sat, and Sun should you need anything . Afternoon/ evening rolled by very quick.

be prepared , I am from a small town and 3000+ people all rushing to get started and the energy made it all seem that much crazier , but they do a great job in mapping and signing.

ps, I just checked my 2009 arm band, no sticker re tent /row number ? any one know when that is told to us. I assume Satarday in Hamilton?

Cheers, thanks, I just rushed threw and saw I had all they mentioned on the list, and had forgotten the sticker they added re tent number until this morning. Hope the 3.5 hours of non stop rain I just rode in is not in cluded next week end.

Try a backpack of around 60 litre capacity. You don't really need that much stuff.

Their are two shower trailers - one for men and one for women. You go in, and wait for a stall. You pull the curtain in the little changing part, hang up your clothes, then step into the shower stall. It is great, private, and simple.

As for the return - figure out when you'll leave on Day Two, your average speed and factor in how long you'll take for lunch etc. Even going a very slow 20 km/h - which is really slow - that's only 5 hours. The roads were such last year that an elite group was averaging 48-49 km/h riding to the finish with Steve Bauer.
