I live in Bowmanville and would be interested in getting together with others to ride and train (hoping that it works with my work schedule though).

Please note I am a very beginner rider. I have been cross-training indoors in an attempt to increase my fitness level and have just recently starting cycling outside (just got my bike a few weeks ago). A friend and I completed a 30km route last weekend to kick start our training for The Ride.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Hello,

I'm also in Bowmanville and would love to get some riders together.  I haven't been on my bike much, I still have to buy one.  I'm also training for the Ottawa 1/2 marathon, but need to get on the bike.  Right now I'm using my mountain bike but hope to get my road bike soon.

You did 30k that's awesome!  We need to start putting the mileage on, so let me know if Sunday April 4 works for you.

Great to hear from you and can't wait to get on the road!

Ttys,
Janet

Hey Janet:

Congrats on also doing the Ottawa 1/2 marathon! I would like to try one of those as well. Maybe that will be next years challenge!

April the 4th is this Saturday and unfortunately, I'm spending the day with my little sisters (going to the One of a Kind Show in Toronto). Sunday, April 5, I have a baby shower to attend in the afternoon but if you are avaliable to get some kms in in the morning I would be game for that ... that was my original plan for the weekend.

How many kms would you like to do this weekend? I did another 12km yesterday just going around my area and really pushing it on hills (my weakness).

Where abouts in Bowmanville are you?

Thanks!
Caroline

Caroline,

Sunday morning would be great for me as well.  I have another girl I've been in contact with through the facebook feed and she was looking to ride Sunday as well.

Last week I ran 14k then biked 10k, I was feeling really strong and had a great run and bike ride.  I wasn't sore the next day which was an added bonus!

I would like to do at least 20k-30k as I'm really needing to get more miles on.  What was your route?  We live near Liberty/Concession intersection.  Lots of great hills out on the Concession roads.

I wasn't sure how many people would respond.  I was trying to think of a flat route to start as we might be at different riding levels and we can see how we all work together.

Let me know your thoughts and I will let Sara know about riding on Sunday.  Does 9 am work or is to early/late?  Where would you like to meet?

Talk to you soon,

Janet

Hi Janet:

That's too funny! I used to live in the townhomes across from North End Market. My BF and I now live in the condos on Aspen Springs.

9am on Sunday works for me. Depending on where Sara is situated, would meeting at the Bowmanville Mall (infront of A&P) work? I can bike up and meet you there.

Wow, I couldn't run a 14k. I can barely do 5k on the treadmill before I'm totally out of breath. I'm hoping I'm not going to slow you and Sara down.

I am up for doing 20km to 30km as well. I agree that starting with a flat route would be a good assessment of our levels. The route I took for the 30km was Baseline and Green Rd to Lambs Rd, then to Taunton (after a quick jaunt down 4th Concession) then back into Bowmanville via Liberty.

I have been referencing these sites to find bike routes:

http://www.mapmyride.com/search?txtLocation=bowmanville%2C+on&txtKeyword=&lstSortBy=cs.view_count+desc&lstDistanceMin=&lstDistanceMax=&lstRatingMin=&lstRatingMax=&lstRouteTypeID=2&btnSearch=SEARCH+%3E

http://www.bikely.com/listpaths/srchkey/bowmanville/country/43/region/37

Thanks,
Caroline

I will let Sara know that 9 am in the A&P parking lot is the plan.

No worries about slowing me down, I've barely been on the bike.

I will check the website and see if there are any flat rides.

See ya Sunday!

Janet

Cheryl,

We are riding this Sunday at 9 am, meeting in front of Metro(formerly A&P) in Bowmanville.  I will email other dates to meet and ride.

Great to hear from you,

I live in Pickering and joined a Durham Cycling group last year to help me prepare for the Ride as I didn't know anyone and didn't want to ride alone.  The group gets together every Sunday around Durham.  There is a fee for the season $30, April - October but you can come out and try for free.
We're getting together this Sunday April 5 at 9:30 at the Starbucks at Sobey's plaza, corner of Taunton and Wilson in Oshawa.  The full ride is 44k with a turn off option of 22k so you can ease into the riding season.  They're a great group of people, age from 18 - 75, experienced and no experience, its a lot of fun, they really helped me last year as I'm new to road cycling.

Hey: I have started training with the Durham Shore Cyclists (group is on Facebook). They are all participating in the Ride and they are always looking for other cyclists to join. They ride out of Ajax every Saturday morning at 7:15pm sharp (meet up at 7am) at the Loblaws on Hwy 2 and Harwood.

This past weekend we a group of us did 27kms and the other group did a longer route. I will be attempting the longer route this coming weekend (50km I believe).

Maybe this might be an option for others as well.

Hope everyone had a good Easter weekend. Hope the fundraising and the training is coming along well.

Cheers,
Liney :)

Hey Kristin,

I have heard there is a great group that meets Saturday morning I believe the are called the Durham shore cyclist, they can be found on facebook.

I have been training for the Ottawa 1/2 marathon as well, so haven't been able to meet with the group yet.  Hopefully I can change my long run days, as we are going to start tapering our runs down for the race.

Ride strong and hope to meet you all soon,

Janetsmile
