LCBO Tag Day Insurance????

I need some help, I have any opportunity to do an LCBO TAG day at the end of October but have some information I need to submit to them first.

One of the items they want is proof Liability Insurance......  does anyone know what this means, do I have to take out insurance to do this.... that would cost money would it not???

I need some help within the next couple of days, to send the information in, or I loose my TAG DAY

This will be my 4th year to participate in the R2CC and have had/done 2 LCBO Tag Days every year.  I have never had to take out liability insurance.  We have always just shown up with our letter of approval, show it to the manager and proceed with our tag day.  I'm assuming you have the same type of letter.  Call whoever signed it and ask them what the insurance is about.  It would be a shame to loose your tag day - they can be pretty profitable.

For some reason LCBO stores located in the Western Region require liability insurance to participate in a tag day on the individuals that are participating, Central Region stores do not have this requirement.  When I questioned the Western Region office person in charge of tag days as to why I got no response......  So if you are in Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph to apply for a tag day you need to show proof of liability insurance if you are in Dufferin /Peel, Mississauga/Oakville, Toronto West, Toronto Downtown, Toronto East, York Region & Toronto North you do not.

The RTCC office has insurance on their official events but not on individual fund raising events so you will have to get the insurance on your own.

The process for applying is different as well, a letter has to be mailed in to the Central Region to apply for a tag day and you can email or fax a letter in to the Western Region.....

same company.... go figure.

So i will be applying for a tag day outside of my area, and hope to get one not too far from Kitchener, maybe Milton or Oakville.

Insurance is usually needed if the store is part of a mall. The stand alone stores dont ask for it. That kind of insurance will cost you money and it is hard to get

Chris - we don't make up or create "tags".  I'm assuming the "name" came from the apple tag days done by the boy scouts - but we don't give out tags.

What we do, is set up a table with some Ride to Conquer Cancer paraphernalia and have a donation jar/container on hand.  We simply approach people as they are entering or approaching the store area and ask them if they would like to contribute to the Ride to Conquer Cancer.  In return for their donation, I normally have some candy - for me, it's usually Werther's - on hand.   You can decorate your table in any way you want - just make sure The Ride to Conquer Cancer is prominent.

You'd be surprised how generous people will be.  Some will try to avoid you, but ask anyway.  Nothing venture, nothing gained.

Hello,

I'm in a similar situation, what did you end up doing? Did you get the insurance and if so with who?

HI, Ronda. I'm not full sure what you are asking but  I have never had to supply insurance for Tag Days - and I've been doing them for a long time.   BUT,  all my tag days are at stand-alone stores.  I've had my tags days this year and raised about  $1200 - which was split between 2 of us.  Try a Walmart - they will also allow you to have a Tag Day and they match up to at least $500..

If I haven't answered your question, feel free to call me - 905-470-1751.  But not until Monday as I'm away for the weekend.

Susan

I think I mentioned it earlier in my post.  The LCBO requires you to have insurance depending on what district you are in. I live in Kitchener so I sent in a request to get permission to stand out front of some our local stores and ask for donations (aka. "tag day" ) and I was told that I would have to  have liability insurance for each person participating in the "tag day" .  It turns out each LCBO district has its own rules,  the Toronoto area stores do not require insurance, so I applied to do a tag day in Oakville instead.

When you go through the application process with the LCBO they will let you know what is needed.
