Would be nice to have some more group training rides in areas outside of Toronto. I am from Hamilton also and doing the ride solo so most of my training has been solo. I attened the Niagara on the Lake training ride organized by the Ride Guides and enjoyed riding in a group again - so in answer to your question, yes, I would be interested. I'll keep my eye on this Board and hopefully others will chime in and we can plan a ride in the Hamilton area before the big weekend.
My name is Brian and I am in Burlington. I would also like to ride with someone in preparation for this, as riding solo is getting a bit tedious. Feel free to email me at cyclist1961@yahoo.ca.
I'm looking at planning an informal group training ride for next Sunday May 27 in Hamilton, tentatively 9:00am. I'll plan a route (about 50 km) and send it out in the next couple days. Anyone who is interested can join in. I would expect that the pace would be in the 20-25 km/h range - about the same as the Niagara on the Lake medium distance training ride was - nothing too fast but not lazy either.
It will not be a "supported" training ride, so no feed stations, no road closures etc - just a group of riders that want to get out and ride together before the big day(s). Hopefully we can get at least a dozen or more to come out.
I'll try include the Ancaster hill climb (which is part of the Day 1 route) so everyone can get some practice in.
Please post a reply if you would be interested in joining me (us) and keep an eye on this message board.
PS - I've just received a "Hamilton Group Email List" from one of the Ride Guides and I've emailed out an invitation to see how many people in the area might be interested in a Group ride. If you're not on this shared email list and would be interested, please email me and I will send you the details.
You (and anyone else interested in joining us) are invited to a Group Training Ride in Hamilton on May 27 in preparation for the 2012 Ride to Conquer Cancer. Please feel free to pass this email along to others that are doing the ride this year. I've attached a Route Map & Directions - here are the details:
- Sunday May 27, 2012
- Meet at 9:00am, Ride at 9:30am
- Start & Finish at St. Thomas More H.S., 1045 Upper Paradise Road, Hamilton (parking lot in front of the school)
- Route is 61km and includes the Ancaster Hill Climb, which is part of the Day 1 Ride to Conquer Cancer route
- Approximately 16km of this route is the same as the Day 1 route
- Pace will likely be 20-25 km/h (I rode almost the exact route this weekend and averaged 22km/h)
- There is only 1 road on the route I am not familiar with (Inksetter) so I will check it out this week and may adjust the route slightly if necessary
- The more the merrier, especially if people want to split into faster / slower groups
Please note that this will NOT be a "supported" training ride in any way, so no feed / hydration stations, no road closures, etc - just a group of riders that want to get out and ride together before the big day(s). Please follow all traffic laws and ride with safety as your #1 priority.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I can be reached by email at jeffandjoanne@cogeco.ca.
Please RSVP if you are definitely going to join us so we can get an idea on how many people to expect. I look forward to riding with you, and good luck with your continuing fundraising!
