Some fundraising ideas

Hi everyone,

This is the first year that I have signed up for the ride. Initially I was a bit frightened by the fundraising amount required to ride. However, I'm committed and confident I can reach the goal. Lately I've been brainstorming some ideas for fundraising. I figure I'd share them with you guys so you can give input and/or use them yourselves!

Here are some ideas that may appeal to the younger crowd that has more time on their hands:

Winter/snow is coming. One idea I have is to post flyers around my neighbourhood explaining that I will shovel their driveway for a donation. Some of you may not be interested in this because it requires time/physical effort. But, I think this gives me a chance to reach out to people in my neighbourhood I dont know(yet). Also, it may encourage them to give if they see that I am willing to provide a service in return for a donation. Not to mention, it provides some extra physical training for the ride!

Another similar idea is to suggest that when the spring comes you will help with gardening or mowing lawns in return for a donation.

Another idea was raised at a recent orientation I attended. Someone mentioned that most Wal-Marts are willing to match the donations you raise at their locations up to $1000. I'm not 100% sure that this information is correct since I've never tried it (if someone can confirm it that would be great). This could be a great way to double your fundraising power! Again, while asking for donations it might be a good idea to provide something of value (entertainment?). One easy idea would be to help the customers carry their purchases to their vehicle. It's worth a shot if you have a bit of time to spare.

Lastly, this one is certainly...creative. It may be a stretch, but if you have some friends with a sense of humor they may be into this.

The idea is that if people donate a certain amount they are allowed to provide a song to a playlist you will blast throughout downtown. Of course, you may not want to do this because it may be a bit embarassing. But hey, you might get some donations from people telling you to stop playing the music! Additionally, it may inspire previous donators to give a little bit more in order to select an embarassing song.

Let me know what you guys think, and if you have some other interesting ideas that everyone else can use!
