Specialized dolce or ruby deals out there?

Hello everyone!

This is my 2nd year riding, and my wife has wanted to do it each year, in 2012 she will be riding, i am so excited for her, that we're going to look for a bike now! I really like specialized and for the womens bike I've only read/heard great reviews on the dolce and ruby bikes, especially in 2011 that the dolce upgraded it's components to the apex SRAM.... I've been told the going rate is 1500 for it, anyone seen any better deals? We live to the east of toronto so prefer a bike shop east of the city.

La Bicicletta has a great selection of ladies bikes including the Specialized, also they have one of the best bike fitters in the city (Heath) and give a discount for Ride riders.

What I suggest you do is go in a see them, and if interested make an appointment for a fitting (takes about an hour)

Check out Bay Cycle in Pickering. They carry loads of bikes and they are one of the official Ride outfitters. They offer amazing deals on bikes for people doing the Ride. They'll make sure you get something great in your price range.

Take a look at Lapierre. They have an entry level Audacio 200 & 400 Femme addition. Just sold one the other day! Thinking of getting 1 for my wife.

I have bought my bikes from impala so trying to stick with them for my wife, as we live in peterborough and it's enough of a drive for the tune ups so i'm not going to go to the city, Impala offers lifetime tune ups, which is a pretty sweet bonus, (10years+ x35 a tune up, adds up nicely!

So we looked at the specializes there, but are now swaying towards the giant avail 1, a compareable bike to the specialized dolce, but with 105's and carbon forks for a better price

High quality Canadian-owned bicycle manufacturers:

Cervelo
Miele
Rocky Mountain
Argon 18

Technically, Cannondale is a subsidiary of a Canadian company, but it's still an American manufacturer.

I had to smile when I read this post because this winter I bought a new bike and had my mind set on a dolce. I ended up purchasing the Giant Avail 1 and I love it! It's a fantastic bike. The components are better especially when you consider the prices of both bikes. I think your wife would be more than happy with the Avail 1. Good luck with your decision.

When we were looking for a bike for me we went all aover trying different "small" frames and decided I needed a women specific bike.  Ended up getting the TREK Lexa, womens bike 147 cm.  It was really annoying trying to find a bike small enough but not too small!  I like this bike so far.  Still getting used to it and tweaking it.

WSD is an acronym for shrink and pink  If you go that route becuase that's the only bike that fits you, you're kind of limiting yourself because of a marketing gimmick.

The attached image is a Trek Lexa superimposed over a 52cm Trek 1.2. besides the slope of the top tube, the riding geometry is the pretty much the same. The only significant difference is the saddle, stem, and handlebars. When you're buying your road bike, find the frame that fits and make clear that you expect the ****pit to be properly fit to you. They may or may not charge extra depending on the value of the bike you're buying.

The Cervelo RS is probably the best of the best for a very compact person right down to an extra small with 650C wheels. To top it off Cervelo includes what they call WSC Option for no additional cost.... Women's Specific Components, which is just a women's saddle, a sub 90mm stem, sub 40cm handlebars.

Hi  the 152 cm bike was way to big for me... why such a hate on for the lexa?  I'm pretty happy with it, and the price was good too.  I'm fine with a "women specific design bike"  I don't really care if it's a market ploy.  I went to almost every bike shop we could think of in the city and tried their smallest road bikes and they were too big, so the trek store was where we found something.  My mountain bike is a older specialied hard rock, and is not a women's bike, but the sizing works better.  Cervelo is out of my price range.  thanks.

thanks for your opinion anyway.

I still recomend my Lexa.

ps I know most people hate trek as mass produced or whatever, but when the shoe fits so they say... wear it ;)

No hate for lexa specifically, it's the plethora woman's specific design bikes that are essentially the same geometry of their non-gender specific counterparts. The concept of sometimes paying a lot more for pink bar tape, butterfly stickers and lesser components has always bugged me. Especially when it's a myth being perpetuated on novice folks who are just trying to get healthy or introduce themselves to road cycling.

We have a young lady in our group ride who's a very strong cyclist and rides a 44cm Fuji SL1, the thing is tiny and almost looks like a toy but it suits her riding style very well.

I have nothing against trek and have a 2001 Trek 5200 USPS Team Edition bike that I still ride frequently. I'd love to get my hands on a 6.9 SSL 'cause it's such a sexy looking machine.
