Advice on a Bike Shop

Hi all:

Last year I was a pit stop crew captain, but this year I will be riding.

I have a mountain bike but I am looking into getting a road bike.

I live in Scarborough (but willing to travel), can anyone suggest a bike store where I can purchase a road bike at a decent price?  (I am looking to spend no more than $2000, give or take).  Or is there a certain time of year that if better to buy than others.  I am just not 100% sure if I will enjoy riding enough to invest a lot of money into a bike... so I'd like to start slow, and see where that takes me.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The Toronto bike show - blowout prices for 2010 equipment - is probably your best bet. You can shop 15 stores under one roof. Failing that, Dornellas on Lawrence is a reputable store and will help you out with sizing, etc. Good luck!

The best bike shop in the city by far is la bicicletta. They can accomadate you with any price range and the fitter there heath is a master fitter. Tell them edward sent you and they will take care of you. I can not tell you how amazing they are. Best service I have ever recieved thus far.

Keep in mind that you'll need pedals and shoes - factor those items into your budget. And a good pair of cycling shorts.

The bike show is a great chance to get a deal but you have to know what you want, what it's real price is, and be willing to buy on the spot. Many stores will let you buy and then come back to the store to get properly fit, but not all.

Proper fit is crucial on a road bike.

Hello,

If it is not too late, you have to check out Ira and Kevin from Gears in Mississauga. Unreal fit and service.

they too will be at the bike show!

Hi, Ashley.  I have an indoor trainer that I am looking to sell.  All the info on it is at home but I can tell you it's a heavy duty one.  I only used it a few times over the winter; that's why I am selling it.  Contact me if your interested:  susanherbison@yahoo.ca

Hey Ashley....I'm also riding a Cannondale Six Carbon 3....jealous if you got yours for $2000 (though I did buy my 2009 bike in 2009).

Its a great bike, and on the 200M course last year, I only saw one other rider with one - so it is also a little unique!

Enjoy your ride.

Hi Chase:

I purchased a 2009 Cannondale: Six 3 (Women's Road Bike).
Haven't been out on it much (if anything at all) so we'll see in the new year how things go.

Ashley, Chase here. Okay, so ... what did you get? I'm torn between Specialized Allez Sport and Trek 1.2. Curious what you grabbed?
I'll be on team Breezy Cyclists. See you on the course.

So Chase, how many usernames do you have on this site? And how many teams are you going to say you're on? Were you going to tell us that you quit our team to join another?
