I am trying to start a team. Again. May just be me. They haven't put it on site yet. When there is a team, must everyone ride together? As we all know, I finished the 2010 M200 last of those who finished. Chances are, though I fully intend to get a lighter bike or at least skinny tires, I won't last with the team past first stop.
I don't suppose anyone would want me on their team? I know it's early days, but I have to say riding alone was very lonely. There were hours where it was just me on the road, then most of day two me with the car and paramedics behind me, and it was demoralizing. I trained alone, rode alone, and I really really do not want to do that again.
If nothing else, I proved I just never give up.

Teams operate in many ways. Most splinter during the ride as ability varies greatly. Some form pacelines but they are normally riding groups that are on a fund raising ride.
Teams are great for fundraising activities and comraderie and to meet new people with common interests.
Form a team and recruit. You are such a positive individual and would make a great team leader.
The only person in town willing to ride with me is insane...as in fell into me just admiring scenery on trail and we had to walk 19 km back. Or pushes and pushes me and comments I'm only 5 years older, why can't I keep up? I've told him I can't ride with him, the temptation to punch him in the temple and knock him into the swamp is just too great.
I renewed as a team but no team shows. I'm waiting for them to return at month end or whatever and fix that.
I'll be riding month end. waiting for the finger to heal. I still can't grip with it. Makes biking a tad difficult. Notice this weekend the weather was lovely? Someone said to me, "Boy, aren't you glad you aren't biking this weekend? It's so HOT..." "I froze my butt off and it was raining. I'm hoping for this weather or something in between next June." We can but hope. I'm not shaving or cutting the hair until I've raised funds. If it takes all year, I'll look like a panhandler.

Can I join after registering? Last year it only let you when you registered. I'll email them and ask. Okay, I've emailed. I can't register twice, I'm all for the cause, but I'm not paying again. LOL. We'll see if they sort it out. And thanks.

My ride guide guy is working on adding me to the team. Cool! Really appreciate it and I'll try hard to get in donations before summer is over. I'm trying.

Not really on topic, but I opened email to my first $20 donation this morning, from an old friend in Connecticut. Once you do the ride, they believe in you. LOL. Cool though. I love those emails. On my netbook, i can scroll down, take a minute, then bite the bullet and look.
I fully intend to spend both Canada Day and the 4th of July (dual citizen) riding on the trail. My birthday's between. I'll be eating all the calories I burn, of course.

Awesome! Welcome to the team.
There are a few more team members to get sorted out as our core group, and then we'll set up a meet and greet.
Excellent. Where are you? I'll be in Toronto the 2nd or 3rd, likely 3rd, of July, just to get out of town and celebrate my birthday anywhere but alone, again, in my apartment. Currently working on getting a road bike. One way or another.

I'm in south Etobicoke. Shoot me an email with your plans and we'll see if we can connect.
looks like I'm staying put...Hibernating this year. I really really have to stop reading the nasty email I get from you tube vids and stuff. One more person calls me an effing loser I'll need bail money.
Going riding on Friday on the tank. So I can't fully bend my index finger still, i'll tough it out. Be a breeze after the Halton Hills!
i just have to figure out if I can afford to just sponsor myself somehow..I'm not going through 11 months of getting flayed alive, verbally, like last year.

My sister and I are EXTREMELY new to this, this is our first ride. We are doing it together but we are newbies and bike riding is kind of new for us in general. While we did it as kids, never to this extent. We both bought bikes from Cyclepaths (nothing hugely expensive but durable) and are working on training.
The problem is fundraising, I'm not a popular chick and I don't have alot of friends and the friends I do have are lousy at spreading the word. Is joining a team help with the fundraising? Also, do you have to ride together? I doubt we will be whizzing by like those experts out there!
Just curious, we are new at this and we never met anyone who has done it.
Welcome to one of the greatest events out there!!!
Fundraising can be tough but just be creative, instead of asking for money for a donation as them for items for a garage sale, if you can get three or four families donating stuff then you'll have a lot more to sell! Also, consider having your garage sale on a long weekend! We have done it twice in the past and both times raised over $1000 and make sure you buy an ad in your local community paper to advertise it as well. also make sure you put in the ad that it is a Charity Garage sale, people are more likely to give you a few extra dollars if they know what your doing it for.
As for the riding, you don't have to ride together. There are many different skill levels doing this event, my team and I have been close to the back every year but have had such a good time doing it that we don't even notice!
Hey! I'm an extreme newbie too... I'm in South Etobicoke and could use as much help/pushing as possible. I haven't registered yet, just requested more info. I've always wanted to do this but finally got over the "want to" stage. I only have a mountain bike. Am I going to suffer using it? Again, any help I can get from someone in the area would be apreciated GREATLY!!!

You won't "suffer" but rather require more effort to do the ride than someone on a road bike. You might consider getting some road tires for it.

I agree with Twinpro, change your tires to road type. I did the Ride in 2010 & I have a mountain bike. I took my bike into the bike shop, told them what I was doing & they were a great help "lightening" my bike up. I wasn't the fastest cyclist out there but I DID IT
Thanks guys! I went to Skiis and Biikes and was told for about $20 each, I could get new street tires for my KHS mountain bike... So I will be doing that.
