Trying to make sure i pack everything i need, and leave behind things i dont need to carry around.
Do i need a bike lock? Not that i think anyone is going to take my bike - but is this something i should bring or leave behind?
I've checked the checklist in the booklet provided, but does anyone else have any suggestions on things they wish they would have packed last year?
I've never been on such a long bike ride - two days in a row - what is the likely hood of getting away with riding with the RTCC jersey both days? I would like to ride in it both days, but am i going to be scaring people away doing that?
Hey d. you don't need a lock, they have 24 hr security so it's pretty safe. Your jersey? I hand washed mine last year with some bottled water and shampoo and let it dry on my tent... do bring some reading material, ipod etc. if you're riding solo it makes for a long afternoon at camp (they should really get hdtv screens throughout camp).
Yep fresh clothes for day 2. Comfy clothes for after the ride on day 1. No lock is needed. As long as your jersy was dry there is no reason you could not wear it but I would have something as a backup incase there is rain.
You should really have a new set of clothing for day 2, as was already mentioned if it rains your clothing will not be dry the next morning. Honestly the worst thing while riding is doing so in wet spandex. Sorry when it is dry it is not the most comfortable clothing out there and wet, it is HELL.
I second the ear plugs. Last year, late night trip to the washrooms sounded like walking through a bull frog farm with all the snoring.
Second set of clothes is a must, but as others had mentioned I gave my jersey a quick clean and wore it the second day. There was something very inspiring about the fact that so many people wore what was most likely a very smelly jersey on the second day, just because it made you feel that much more part of a great cause. I highly recommend it, wash or no wash (just don't ride up wind of anyone haha).
Also they had great portable shower services on site but as with any type of setup like that I highly recommend bringing flip flops so you don't have to worry about any foot grossness.
Finally, enjoy the weekend, it's going to be great!
