LOOKING TO BUY A USED BUT LOVED ROADBIKE for the EVENT!

I am 5'5 and am in desperate need of a Road bike to use for the event! This is my first RTCC and I do not have a bike!

I have been shopping around but don't have $1000 to spend on a brand new bike.

Looking for my very first soulbike-mate!!! I need to start training asap and am having a hard time finding a suitable bike

Please help!

Have you tried your local bike shops as people do trade in at this time of year?  Where are you located?

I'm located in downtown Toronto. I've been checking Craiglist but its mostly men's bikes which would be much too large for me.disbelief

I will ask around and have my bike shop keep an eye out for you.  Best of luck!  In the mean time, and if you have a MTB, put a road saddle on it to get used to the saddle at least.  May as well get that part of the conditioning going!

Hi Amy,

There is a place in Erin that sells used bikes, I am not sure of the name of the shop.  As per the previous recommendation, if you can't find a used ladies bike that fits you.  Best to put a new seat on the mtn bike, put road slicks on it and have it serviced and it will work for you.

There really isnt alot of used road bikes available for men or women.

hey, try Cyclepath on the Danforth, I know last year they had a few used road bikes for sale.  I don't know if or what they have now.

Try Bikeland Barrie, or at least call , they may have one or two. Or another option is a NON current . New - perhaps still in the box but a couple years old that a store could not sell . I know a couple stores in Barrie - Orillia had several like that last year. especially smaller or very large sizes.

Try Newson's Sharpening and Skate Exchange. The store name is "Skates", but they deal in 2nd-hand bikes big-time, and do a good job fixing them up.  I have bought both my kids' bikes there, and was very satisfied with what we got.

Silent Sports is having a Swap April 25 & 26. The SWAP is where people can sell old bikes, components, etc.

Hi everyone,
I'm also looking for a small size road bike for the event. I was told a top tube size of 52.5 cm would be ideal for me. I've been looking on craigslist but haven't found quite the right thing yet (at the right price)... if you know of anything, please let me know!
Thanks!

Karen,

Not sure what you're looking to spend and what your preferences were but I saw a Schwinn Hybrid with road tires (ie: thin 700c) at Canadian Tire that looked decent for the money ($320):

http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/5/SportsRec/BikesAccessories/BikesHybrid/PRDOVR~0711379P/Schwinn%2BCircuit%2BXT%2B700C%2BHybrid%2BBike.jsp#reviews

Not sure if that helps. It was also on sale when I saw it, so maybe you could convince their manager to give you the sale price (similar to some of the discounts bike shops give for the ride).  Food for thought.

Good luck and happy riding!

Kevin
