How are teams getting raffle licences through the Gaming commission?
We were told to acquire raffle items before applying, and then once we went to apply we were told we would not qualify as we are not "a registered charitable organization" -- so now we have prizes and no raffle!!!
I don't see a problem with doing that; it's a charity. People do it all the time no need to worry. I hold raffles every year for another charity and no one has ever complained (who in their right mind would complain about raising money in this way for a charity???). I say GO FOR IT!
I agree. Look at the fundraisers held at schools, sporting events, dances etc. There are always raffles and you can bet very few are sanctioned by the gaming commission.
But if you advertise in a local paper, you may draw a little too much attention.
good luck. there are penalties and fines if caught. someone would have to report you though. it does happen. sucks. i am deciding to do silent auction for my prizes which i collected for my golf tournament. i think that is legal as it is not considered a "lottery".
